How We Help Every Child Flourish

Mosaic's Approach to Teaching and Learning

What do we want children to experience every day when they walk into a Mosaic school?

It is a simple question, but an important one.

We want children to feel safe, valued and inspired to learn. We want them to be challenged, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best. We want them to leave our schools with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in the next stage of their education and beyond.

These ambitions sit at the heart of our Teaching and Learning Model.

While each Mosaic school has its own unique character and serves its own community, we are united by a shared commitment to excellence for every child, every day. Our Teaching and Learning Model provides a common foundation that helps us achieve this, drawing on educational research, professional expertise and the collective experience of our schools.

But this model is not really about a framework.

It is about children.

Great teaching changes lives

We know that great teaching has the power to transform outcomes and open doors.

When learning is carefully planned and expertly delivered, children achieve more. They develop a deeper understanding of what they are learning, build confidence in their own abilities and become increasingly independent as learners.

That is why our approach focuses on the things that matter most: high expectations, ambitious learning, strong relationships and a commitment to ensuring that every child can succeed.

Equally important is what children learn about themselves along the way. We want pupils to develop curiosity, confidence and resilience. We want them to believe that effort matters, that mistakes help us learn and that success is achievable.

What does this look like in practice?

Walk into a Mosaic classroom and you should see children thinking hard, discussing ideas, solving problems and engaging with meaningful learning.

You should see teachers building on what pupils already know, helping them make connections and deepening their understanding over time. You should hear ambitious vocabulary being taught and used with confidence. You should see learning that is carefully structured so that children experience success whilst also being challenged to think more deeply.

You should also see classrooms where relationships matter.

Places where children feel confident to contribute, ask questions and take on new challenges because they know their teachers believe in them.

Technology also has an important role to play. Used thoughtfully and purposefully, it can improve accessibility, enhance learning and help remove barriers so that more children can participate and succeed.

Every child. Every opportunity.

One of the defining features of our approach is our commitment to inclusion.

Children come to school with different experiences, strengths and needs. Our responsibility is not to lower expectations, but to ensure that barriers to success are identified and removed wherever possible.

We believe every child should have access to ambitious learning and the opportunity to thrive.

Alongside academic success, our schools are guided by our values of being Respectful, Resilient and Resourceful.

These values shape the culture of our schools and the experiences of our pupils. They help children become considerate friends, confident learners and responsible members of their communities. They encourage perseverance in the face of challenge and foster the independence and problem-solving skills that children will need throughout their lives.

Stronger Together

One of the greatest strengths of being part of Mosaic Schools Learning Trust is the opportunity to learn from one another.

By sharing expertise, collaborating across schools and continually reflecting on our practice, we can strengthen the education we provide for every pupil. Our Teaching and Learning Model gives us a shared language and a shared ambition whilst still celebrating the individuality of each school community.

Ultimately, this model is not a checklist or a set of strategies.

It is a reflection of what we believe.

We believe every child can succeed.

We believe barriers should be removed, not accepted.

We believe great teaching changes lives.

And we believe that, by working together, we can ensure every child receives the education they deserve and the opportunity to flourish.

That is what Excellence for Every Child, Every Day means to us.
